The Know It When I See It Fabric

Since I've been accused of keeping you all in suspense here's the fabric which spells my doom....It's silk dupioni and yes, yes dupioni is not an historically correct fabric. And in my own way, history be stuffed because I'm using it anyway and the only reason it wasn't used back then is because no-one made it. It's too darn cute not to use.

  1. I *like* silk dupioni. My favourite gown is made from it and people may think what they like but I love it!

Besides, stores in Sweden mostly carry dupioni rather than taffeta (not that I usually shop for silk in Swedish stores anyway...)

  2. Oh my - I see why you were beguiled! Good stripe :)

I like dupioni, too - in the UK they tend to have that in shops but not taffeta. As you say - they would've used it if they'd had it! And I might adopt this as my new sewing mantra - "If it was gorgeous enough to be used in 2006 Marie Antoinette, then it's gorgeous enough for me!" (Apparently a couple (or more) of the gowns in that are dupioni.)

  3. Same here. Dupioni is the commonly available silk which really makes it the historical equivalent of taffeta. I like the slubs as I do think silk without texture is a little too much like poly to make it interesting. I've decided to go with the caraco as it better fits both my station in life and my budget..lol Still trying to invent a reason to make something out of silk brocade.
